Following the success of the John Aley Trial this summer, the MCC is pleased to announce that 2022 is going to be even bigger and better!

Last year's plans for a three day trial were postponed due to Covid, so the 120th Anniversary celebration was put back to 24-26 June 2022.

There will be a full trial starting 7am Friday morning in Nailsworth, going via sections such as the Ladder, John Walker and Merehay heading for an evening do in Exeter.

Then another day's trialling via hills such as Simms and Tillerton and another evening do in Exeter, then a final day heading back to Nailsworth via sections such as Slade Lane and Burledge.

Those with Class O suitable machines are still welcome, but will skip the more damaging sections. We hope to run a motorbike service where bags can be dropped off at the start, and they will be transported to the finish in Exeter. A secure compound for trailers will be available at the start.

There will also be a 'Classic Road Trial', all on tarmac but visiting some of the steepest hills in the South West where you'll be tested on restarts, and a special test each day. You'll follow the main trial route, but go via some additional loops where you'll prove you've followed the route by collecting code boards which are at the side of the road. All machinery welcome from everyday cars to pre-war or sports cars that are too valuable or fragile to go off road.

Good quality accommodation at Exeter University is provisionally booked at very reasonable rates, and an outline plan for the event is progressing with a big celebration event each evening in the University's large Function Hall.

Confirmed by MSUK that shared driving is allowed, drivers and passengers can share the driving over the three days.

Entries are open costing £200. The expected costs for the event are £80/person/night bed and breakfast and 3 course evening meal single occupancy, or £125 double occupancy. £37.50 car insurance where needed, and other food, drink and petrol costs, totalling around the £500 mark. Hopefully plenty of time to start saving up for what should be a fantastic weekend of trialling and celebrating.

Current plan for the three days is as follows:

Day 1: 'Grand depart' style event leaving Nailsworth for hills run by Stroud, Bristol, MGCC, Windwhistle and Woolbridge finishing in Exeter for an overnight stay and evening of celebration.

Day 2: Torbay and Launceston, with some MCC Hills, finishing back in Exeter for more celebrating.

Day 3: Exmoor, Minehead, Bristol, Stroud finishing back in Nailsworth for a sign off pint and finishers medal.

Main Trial: Attempting all the hills, eg. Ladder, Simms, Angel Steps etc.

Class O: Attempting a selection of the hills that are judged less damaging, but no extra hills..

Class R: Following the main trial route, but with some extra deviations with route check codes to collect, and attempting a series of hill restarts on some of the steepest bits of tarmac road in the South West.
