NAME:
Sam Lindsay
MCC MEMBER SINCE:
2015, I think my first event was the Edinburgh that year.
WHAT VEHICLE DO YOU USE TO COMPETE IN MCC EVENTS?
I started in a class 4 Beetle, but now use a VW Sandrail, very similar to a Fugitive but a slightly different chassis.
WHAT MODIFICATIONS HAVE YOU MADE TO IT?
It’s got longer travel front suspension, a rack and pinion steering system upgrade, oversized rear suspension arms, Porsche CV joints (for more angularity on the driveshafts), and I’m just about to install a new 1776cc engine, essentially a “bored out” VW engine.
HOW HAS THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AT MCC EVENTS?
It has been very mixed over the few years of competing in it, however I have made several large modifications to improve the competitiveness of the car in the last six months, so I’m hopeful it will perform a lot better! The only medal claimed by the car is a Bronze on the 2019 Lands End.
WHAT ADIVCE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT ENTERING THEIR FIRST LONG DISTANCE TRIAL?
Ensure your car is tested reasonably well beforehand, have an excellent relationship with your passenger (it’s a hard set of events, things are bound to get tough), and work on changing wheels quickly! They are brilliant events and some of the cheapest/most fun motorsport going, stop thinking about it and do it!
