MIDSUMMER ROAD CHALLENGE

A stunning scenic route throughout Somerset in the summer.

All of the enjoyable elements of our successful Class R events but with a bit more jazz!

The inaugural Midsummer Road Challenge will take place on 21st and 22nd June 2024, a motor event to be staged all upon metaled roads.

This will have many of the enjoyable elements of our successful Class R events but with a bit more Jazz.

The event will begin with a midnight barbecue before vehicle scrutineering and an early morning start from Taunton.

The route takes you up over the wilds of Exmoor, upon roads familiar to MCC members - but also on roads that will be new to most.

Driving or riding through an early sunrise on the longest day of the year, over heather-covered moors and open old Roman roads will be a delight.

A buffet breakfast awaits participants, in a 400-year-old pub on the wilds of the Somerset levels. During the day, we will take you on roads that you did not know existed, routes you will wish to revisit, and places to surprise.

Your voyage will follow one river after another to an overnight stop at Llandrindod Wells. If you were still a bit peckish on your route, you could stop at one of the recommendable eateries to be found at Tintern.

As day one draws to an end you will be all signed off having covered 230 memorable miles. There is no tight time to finish although you all should be in time for supper.

Day 2 starts with the first competitor leaving at 8.30am from The Metropole Hotel. The route can only be described as 'stunning'.

The driving and riding standards demanded by today must be high. Single-track roads with passing places, bends and blind crests come one after another. It will be a shorter day of 130 miles, broken with a buffet meal before returning to the Metropole.

The two-day event is to be run under MS UK and ACU rules as a combination of a Touring Assembly and a Road Trial (this being a method adopted in the past for the Exeter Trial). A printed route book will be supplied for all to navigate with. Competitors will also receive a programme, rally plate, and finishers certificate. The two meals on day one and the one on day two are included in the entry fee, for everyone.

There will be Hotel accommodation at the Metropole at a concessionary price is available on a first-come first-served basis (once the code is issued to entrants). A choice of other accommodation exists close by.

If you would like to take part in this event, email mccjonathanl@gmail.com expressing an interest and subsequently pay your entry within the first week. We will then do our utmost to ensure you have a place.
