''The club has funds, but the club's committee seem to talk a lot about improvements but don't seem to take any action on this, as most action would be not the done thing in the 1950s so it shouldn't be done at all now''.
''As I've said, the committee could do something about it, but they'd probably need umpteen meetings to make a decision, then once the decision has been made, it would be conveniently forgotten about as acting on that decision would mean change, and we don't like change.''
As a member of ''the committee'' .... firstly I suspect that more than half of the members on the committee were nt even born in 1950. secondly The committee hold virtual meetings now via zoom. Thirdly members old and new are about to see fundamental changes in how the club itself is run with the adoption of a new '' off the shelf '' digital membership and entries system that will make joining and entering events easier for members and officials.
Following the trial on the Edinburgh in 2019 ( that was so successful it went unremarked by anyone!) route cards and documentation for all competitors will be 99% digital from this years Edinburgh. Looking forward exciting plans for the 2021 Exeter provisionally include a control card replacement that requires no contact whatsoever.
One thing ''the committee'' would admit to I think is been poor at communicating the work that they do to provide the 800 members the three biggest trials in the country each year plus the testing trial, the navigational scatter, the club dinner, The Triple magazine.
Of course we can do more, but it we must get value for money from everything we do, and the £30 membership fee is well spent each year and it has pressures to increase. The costs of running events are considerable and growing greater every year and entry fees are certain to increase not least because Motorsport UK has upped the permit fee by a fiver per person.
My personal thought is we must get bang per buck, at the moment the forum has small exposure amongst members with Facebook perhaps been a better home for a wider audience at zero cost for photographs.
The club is advertising currently for a communications officer and an IT specialist.
