Some information on start locations please?

Plusha works for me despite living 3 and a half hours away as my plan is:

Thursday night, finish work and head for friends Justine and Al's in St Austell, arrive after 4/5 hour drive for good company, a few drinks and a comfy bed!

Friday, leisurely morning then wife drives me 45 minutes to Plusha for the start in the afternoon, then drives van back to St Austell.

Friday evening, she gets good company, a few drinks and a comfy bed! I get the joy of riding into the night!

Saturday I complete (hopefully) the Lands End and either I ride to St Austell or wife drives van the 47 minutes to Hayle to collect me, we then return to St Austell, yes you guessed it.... good company, a few drinks and a comfy bed! Actually Justine's Birthday Party will be in full swing by then so I'd better remember my ear plugs if I want any sleep!

Sunday repeat the good company, a few drinks and a comfy bed!

Monday, lazy morning then join the hoards heading east!!!

A slight fly in the ointment is that Al has just told us he might take Justine away for her Birthday instead of the usual party!!!

So....

Plan B - stay at their place anyway

Plan C - stay at my cousins in St Columb (35 minutes from Plusha / 42 minutes from Hayle) instead

Plan D - Stay at my Aunt's in Liskeard (25 minutes from Plusha / 1 hour from Hayle) instead

One way or another i'll be doing the Lands End 

Plan E - Start from Home. Do trial. Spend night in bus shelter. Go home.

Us folk from the Pennines who are fool enough to drive an austin 7 in class O will be hiring a vw crafter for the weekend (£120) car will go in the back. a mate will drive us leisurely down to bridgewater for the start.. we ll do the trial and meet the crafter at hayle.. car will be loaded up and we ll hit the bright lights locally staying over at the Travel lodge ( £158 for two rooms) before an Easter Sunday drag race oop north to feed the pigeons

i also have an excellent austin 7 sized trailer However it has pros and cons

pros.. no van hire £100

cons... max speed 50 compared to 70 in van and have to have a driver comfortable with the trailer to drag it to Hayle. Trailer is insecure overnight with an open vinatge car on it parked outside a hotel. its a lot easier driving the van down a narrow cornish lane to effect a recovery than a smaller van with trailer.

the van is a no brainer winner.

Simon Woodall used to use a VW transporter pickup for the buggy...which was a very close fit on the bed....
Years ago, my regular passenger tried to get our skoda into the back of a van.....Probably too tight a fit.....and once inside, one was stuck there for the entire journey, as the doors wouldn't open [and sunroof too small]
Sevens are twee....beetles less so.

Still does, mate.   Elevated to a T4 these days - cheaper running on diesel than the GTi engine I had in the back of the T25.
Not quite such a tight fit, but still ticks all the boxes that Mark Greg lists, with the added advantage that it is mine, and gets used extensively between events - funny how popular you become when you have a device suitable for hauling large objects down to the tip.
Not to mention carrying all the kit out to locations during the organisation of the Clee Hills Trial.

No its 60 with a trailer in a 70 limit. and 50 in a 60 limit.

Vans are subject to the same speed limits as a vehicle towing a trailer, except on motorways where they can do 70....

Unless its a Car derived Van under 2040Kg then its the same as a car.....

CDV definition has been modified to be simpler to understand....now defined as a ''van , when fully loaded, weighs less than 2 tonnes.''

Which eliminates things like Tranny Connects, etc.

We have a van derived car. Our ex-Motability Renault Trafic tow vehicle is van based but registered (and taxed) as a car because it has rear seats and no bulkhead behind the front seats.

Oh well it all ended up being academic  now the LE has been cancelled.

I could of course start prepping my bike early for the Edinburgh (here's hoping) except i'm now in complete lockdown for 12 weeks (i'm on immunosuppressants) and my bike is in storage at a friends house 20 miles away....

Even if I could get out of the house, it's hardly an essential journey!
