Yes this change is bad for Car competitors.

Not all Car competitors have a regular Navigator and sometimes the navigator needs to be changed even on the night or morning of the trial.

Motorcycle Licences are a whole lot different..... And that was a bad idea stopping many from starting in competition.

Its just a load of red tape and forms that is completely unnecessary. It does no more than the same as the signing on sheet.

Yet another barrier for the sport.

The medical self assessment could stop a few, especially if it turns out to be quite stringent. I know some stop driving due to health reasons and turn to navigating. It could stop them doing that too if the licence is the same for both driver and passenger.

Yes its not the driver that is really affected.... I have held an RAC motorsport licence for some 34 years, renewed every year.

Its the Navigator and Passengers that need also to have a License.....

And these are the people that are not always the same for the driver of the vehicle.....

This is a very bad move for Car Trials.... A very bad move indeed...…..

well it is an issue

firstly every competition you enter will now cost you a £5 extra.  even the testing trial.

secondly the licence does not discriminate between drivers and passengers.

It might be perfectly legitimate to ask the medical history of the driver of the car especially in a speed competition. however the DVLA has a perfectly good system of managing the licences for drivers with poor health (Recognise that we do not compete on the public road, at the same time as other vehicles or in a sport where speed is a requirement)
Passengers can surely fulfill their role with greater disadvantages than the driver and yet their licence is the same as the driver. Do we prevent partially sighted passengers, those with limited movement, those with diabetes,  living with cancer or heart complaints from participating? simply because they must have the same licence as a driver.

It seems to me that this is a self defeating, counter-productive move. I fail to see how it can encourage motorsport such as ours one iota.

This sounds like it will stop any disabled people from compeating in LDT's and our events are very good in this respect. A person whos disability would normally prevent them from competing in motorsport, currently would still be allowed to enjoy this sport as navigtor. If its true what im hearing on here, this new licence will now put a stop to this.

A very backwards step and they should be made aware of this. You can't suddenly introduce a rule wich discriminates against disabled people and thus preventing them from further taking part in a sport.

Perhaps a letter from the club is required highlighting this.

A letter from the club is an excellent idea.... So is a letter from each of the club members.... As one letter might be treated as just one objection  whereas 2,000 (or however many club members we have) should be treated as 2,000 objections..

With regards to the MSuk RS licences, and the requirements for passengers to also hold one....
Form the MSuk Q&A page, the following
Quote
Do all passengers require a RS Clubman licence? Why?

Passengers of 18 years old and above will require a licence at Motorsport UK permitted events.
Passengers will not require a licence if an event has a certificate of exemption.

Does this mean the MCC can apply for passenger licence exemptions for all of its events?

I would also point out that with the ACU licence comes insurance cover for road use on a trial will the MSUK licence do that?
It seems to me that car enthusiasts will have to lean to do what motorcyclists have been doing for decades, stand up and fight for their rights.

I received a temporary RS Clubman licence today by email, for printing out. It took ages to print and I couldn't understand why until it appeared from the printer. It fills an entire A4 sheet. My attempts to resize it to a more sensible size just made it unreadable.

Maybe I'll just fit a filing cabinet in the car.

The properties for the image that Motorsport UK have supplied show that it is 28 x 44 cm; that's more like a poster than a credit card size.  Several ways round the problem: paste the image into a Word doc, drag one corner of the image to resize it, then print the Word doc; or resize it in one of the image softwares, e.g. Paintnet, then print the image; or take a photo of your computer screen with your smart phone and show the image at the start; or open the email at the start on your smart phone and show the image.

open the email at the start on your smart phone and show the image.

this is what i'll be doing.  i opened it on my iphone, and did a screenshot.

still, it's not like they didn't know they were going to have to actually implement this in time for the start date, you'd think that they had thought this through properly..... ah, wait.....  ::)

Yes, tried that already, as 'wot I wrote'. I've left it on my phone and will show that image if and when asked.

Not that it bothers me personally, but why does the license have your DoB on it? Is that relevant? They will have it on their records but why on the actual license?
