Edinburgh 2020 DISCUSSION
« on: February 04, 2020, 08:37:17 am »
Bang on target and the Edinburgh team held their first planning meeting this week. With snow laying on the Peaks and Dales we jumped right into section planning for the first weekend in October,  Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October.. note those dates...

Aside from sections we ll be making some strides into the 21st century. We be already done some work investigating roadbook formats for motorcycle users. We were keen to offer GPX files etc. However a consensus amongst motorcycle riders including Triple winners and raw beginners was that it may cause more issues at this stage especially regarding instructions for hills and noting the legally required Q and QQ

Undaunted however we discovered via that project an excellent FREE app Rally Tripmeter by slim plangi. We will be using it to produce the most accurate mileages the club has used. No more shortly's, in 100 yards etc. Measurements will be to 0.01 of a mile. You can download the app and use it on the trial via a phone or pad whether your a car or bike user.

Not only will competitors benefit from technology.  officials instructions will be sent electronically to each individual official/ observer. Observers will all receive an updated Edinburgh specific " how to observe"" document as well as a separate section / location specific set of instructions.
David Malin our chief marshal is looking forward to many fewer visits to the post office.. Please when volunteering or subject to David and his press gang let us have your email address.
As part of those instructions we re adding another critical enhancement. Having consulted Derbyshire Ambulance service and the local A@E consultant we will be using the brilliant what3words app to describe locations. You don't need the app to use this technology as the what3 words location will be included in your location/ section specific instructions.  Non of the emergency services carry maps and many sections don't have a postcode within a mile, an app that is accurate to 3 metres is a fantastic enhancement to on event safety.

As to the trial itself we ll "probably" be starting at least an hour earlier, we ll definitely be doing more sections through the night we re definitely cutting even more A roads and have several MILES of additional smooth green lanes, all in a route of 180 or so miles. We " might" even add a northern start for those of us with whippets.

We have one outstanding issue which prevents us revealing more but come March we ll hopefully have some terrific news re sections!

we hope to be able to bring a detailed preview of the event in before the Ides of  March so check NOTW and here for news before its even available via facebook instagram and whatsapp

If we can hold the Edinburgh on 3rd October we will, if we cant the same restrictions will stop us holding the testing trial as well.
