Change of vehicle situation
« on: April 19, 2019, 06:06:17 am »
I'm riding a different motorcycle in the LE to the one I entered with some weeks back. This will also entail a change of class.

For some time NOTW has been explaining "change of vehicle" rules:

Cars are covered by the MSA rules (and different Insurance) and need to have any changes officially notified some days prior to the event.
Motorcycles come under ACU conventions and insurance so they can be changed on the start by informing the signing-on crew.

The issued Route and Final Instructions state that all vehicles have to follow the protocols which is for cars. This is not so, motorcycles can be changed at the start point.

Does this change at the start for motorcycles include change of class?

Mmm, Yes - ish
You can change from A to B to C or any permutation therein.
You can change from D to A/B/C but NOT vice versa.
You can change from E to D/C/B/A but not vice versa.
If you change to E you would also have to change your name to Osborn or Walton, and the Deed Poll paperwork takes too long :)
You cannot change from A/B/C to O or vice versa.
You cannot change from A/B/C to R or vice versa.
You cannot change from Bike to Car or vice versa.

So I'm guessing three wheelers and sidecars aren't covered by the ACU insurance? Is this why no swapping from bike to D or E?

But what's the reason you can't swap main trial bike to class O bike? Is it down to route instructions?
