getting extra marshals
« on: March 15, 2019, 10:28:16 am »
Its happened to me a few times
Hotel booked collection( van sorted if its a bike event) and the bikes  electronics pass out day before
or
Hotel booked ,car sorted Bang cam belt on last try out run on the thursday
I am going to be a non starter.......

Both times I have contacted chief marshal and gone down in normal car and marshalled used hotel and had planned weekend away
Why cant we regularize that situation refund part of entry fee if the Non Stater becomes a marshall?
publish the option it on the entry form.....

Actually I just had a look at last LET results there were about 20 non starters now even if 50% they were ill or had a more urgent appointment 10 extra marshals with a cash incentive to attend (not even allowing for passengers)  seems like a good addition

Excellent Idea.   :)

However unless you knew you were going to be a non starter a month or so before this would not really save hills from being cancelled. But it would put extra marshals on hills and fill in the gaps if a marshal could not make it.

Of course it could all go wrong if all the competitors non started.....

25 Marshals on each hill and no competitors...  :D

The sooner we know about availability the better, but nonetheless worth adding a note at least to the our comms channels if not the entry form - good idea.

a more than fair observation ( see what i did there :) ) that entries could be part refunded for non starters observing on the event. However once the printer has had his instructions your 'expense' is locked in so I suspect that a part refund would not amount to very much, non the less a valid proposal for consideration.

This isn't a new idea - unless something has changed, if you had entered, can't start for some reason and then step up to marshal, then you get your entire entry fee back in full.

I think the point Tim is making is that this is not well known.
