With 5 bikes to build, a good build thread is always interesting.

Take lots of pictures and post them on here!!!

I also tried [img] XXXXX [img]
and the Browse box which got the name but nothing else

If we get a new IT man then a good idea is to sort our an easy picture route on the forum THAT would liven it up.

|One of my few working customers at the moment is a web designer and he has had a look at our current IT offering and he says the forum is one of the better bits and fit for purpose :)

It's not hard to sort it.  The club just needs to pay for more space to host the pictures on the forum.

Most forums use linked photos from photo hosting sites such as Flickr and the like.  This reduces the costs to the forum.  It is easy, once you know how to do it.

If I can post photos, then anyone with a little bit of savvy can do it because that's all I'm using  ;).  Jason's instructions will show you how http://www.themotorcyclingclub.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=73.0 .

Learning something new will keep your brain turning over and help stop it deteriorating.  Take your pick; learn a new language, learn a musical instrument, or learn to post images  ;D.  You've got to come out of the garage at some stage  ???.

i really dont want to use a photo hosting site on all my other forums I just load it from computer file system check the size in my photo manipulator (eg paint.net or in my case its Linux equivalent) and then paste to the post.  Or in a few cases save and link and this is important from my own computer

Why don't you pay for the extra storage for the club then??     ;)

We've given you a solution, it's up to you to use it or not.

Aside from privacy concerns making the process easier would make it more accessible and popular
never the less its a great adjunct to the club and I enjoy using it.

You know, Tim, I'm all for making it easier, and frankly you're quite right.  The club has funds, but the club's committee seem to talk a lot about improvements but don't seem to take any action on this, as most action would be not the done thing in the 1950s so it shouldn't be done at all now.  All it needs to spend some money on picture storage and we would be able to attach pictures easily.

I don't know if you've noticed but it seems like someone has removed all of our avatars in an attempt to create space however, this hasn't worked.  I have asked Simon whether he has done it, as he is the only other person with an admin account, however I've not yet received a reply. (exactly a month ago).

As I've said, the committee could do something about it, but they'd probably need umpteen meetings to make a decision, then once the decision has been made, it would be conveniently forgotten about as acting on that decision would mean change, and we don't like change.

Seems like I've been a bit ranty, but during this Covid-19 crisis, so many innovations have been made, Universities have converted all of their teaching to online teaching for example, but we can't get attach pictures on a forum!!!!

That's because, he has taken all the avatars and turned them into fridge magnets........:)

Perhaps he should sell them to boost funds!!

I believe the loss of avatars may be related to when the site was hacked by some scumbag a while back. All the avatars had disappeared when the site was restored.  As to why the forum won't re-accept avatar images, I have no idea ???.

''The club has funds, but the club's committee seem to talk a lot about improvements but don't seem to take any action on this, as most action would be not the done thing in the 1950s so it shouldn't be done at all now''.

''As I've said, the committee could do something about it, but they'd probably need umpteen meetings to make a decision, then once the decision has been made, it would be conveniently forgotten about as acting on that decision would mean change, and we don't like change.''

As a member of ''the committee'' .... firstly I suspect that more than half of the members on the committee were nt even born in 1950. secondly The committee hold virtual meetings now via zoom. Thirdly members old and new are about to see fundamental changes in how the club itself is run with the adoption of a new '' off the shelf '' digital membership and entries system that will make joining and entering events easier for members and officials.
Following the trial on the Edinburgh in 2019 ( that was so successful it went unremarked by anyone!)  route cards and documentation for all competitors will be 99% digital from this years Edinburgh. Looking forward exciting plans for the 2021 Exeter provisionally include a control card replacement that requires no contact whatsoever.
One thing ''the committee''  would admit to I think is been poor at communicating the work that they do to provide the 800 members the three biggest trials in the country each year plus the testing trial, the navigational scatter, the club dinner, The Triple magazine.

Of course we can do more, but it we must get value for money from everything we do, and the 30 membership fee is well spent each year and it has pressures to increase. The costs of running events are considerable and growing greater every year and entry fees are certain to increase not least because Motorsport UK has upped the permit fee by a fiver per person.

My personal thought is we must get bang per buck, at the moment the forum has small exposure amongst members with Facebook perhaps been a better home for a wider audience at zero cost for photographs.

The club is advertising currently for a communications officer and an IT specialist.

It seems like I'm getting a bit bitter and twisted about how the club is run and how people are treated.

I think it best that I go.

I'll be deleting myself from the forum and letting people know I've had enough.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I will have to apologise to Tufty, for not responding to his message, even though he will not see this reply.
I do not remember seeing a query about Avatars, and to be honest with you I would not know an Avatar if it jumped out at me from behind a bush.....

I set up this forum after a request, almost a demand, from members that what the club needed was a forum.   The most vocal person on the subject at that meeting has made just one posting here.

With David/Tufty having stepped away, someone needs to volunteer to administer this forum.   If no one wants to do that, then we could just shut the thing down.
