Title: Potential New Logo
Post by: david@whitepost.me.uk on November 17, 2019, 05:56:55 pm
The committee sanctioned the development of a new logo to work better with portable devices (smart phones, iPads etc.) and computers.

I think they look great, what is your view?

I do not like it at all.

Keep the old one it has history and quality.

There are about 100 similar comments on face book to the same opinion as well.

So do you think we need a redesign of the old one so that it works on modern tech?

Do you think that the continuous staying with the old way of doing things is not killing the club off.  Fewer members, fewer people attending the trials etc.

What are your suggestions for getting a new younger membership involved in the club's events or should the club just die off when the older members of the club are too old to compete?

I'm sure an outline or such would work just as well. Possibly get the MCC Badge digitally remade?

I think keeping this badge is not killing the club off. Changing it may certainly make old members leave.

We need to keep members as well as attract new ones. I'm also not sure that this badge will do either and may well kill off the MCC faster.

The MCC is like a big family with old historic values and stands for Quality and Tradition in an ever increasing Throw away & lets change everything for the sake of change society.

We have a club that has lasted 119 years. That's pretty good by any standards.

1. Modern youths are in the main not interested in going outside.

2. Lack of suitable affordable vehicles.

3. Modern environmental opinions.

4. Suburban sprawl.

5. Loss of countryside Green Lanes.

These are the five main things that are killing the sport of trials. and will continue to do so no matter what is done by the MCC.
This is Hard fact.

Plus now MSUK requiring all passengers to have a licence will delete membership even more. Why join the MCC for a passenger pass if you can now get one free from MSUK? This needs the clubs to fight MSUK over.

The Sport has always been low key by way of publicity.

The MCC and other clubs need to saturate the media with event coverage in motorcycling and motorsport magazines. If no one knows we are here we will not get new members.

New members need not be young.

It is good that opinions are being asked. However notice needs to be taken of those opinions. Not just deleted as has happened on the MCC Facebook page. We need to keep the members we have, this will not happen if we treat the membership in this way. A lot of good will, I fear, has already been lost by this move.

That's why most correspondence is being aired on the Classical Trials Facebook Page.

Negative comments such as that made in an article in the current issue of Restart dont help either!

Negative comments such as that made in an article in the current issue of Restart dont help either!

Comments are only perceived to be negative by those that do not agree with the comments.

However:

Mike: This looks like an un warranted personal attack on me.... I have not made any comments on Restart.

Could you please explain who and what you are talking about? Thank you.

Stephen, this has absolutely nothing to do with you. I said "in an article in Restart" and it is about the Edinburgh. I will not name names though. Please read it.

Many companies rebrand with changes to their logos to kick off marketing campaigns.

Why can't the MCC do the same?

? David.

Well I read it that way.

Surely this forum must not degenerate into some sort of personal slanging match.
If there is something to say Names should be used.

And

A new Logo!
No No No
in this day and age when computers can supposedly soon be able to drive a car better than us it smacks of IT incompetence to make a lame excuse that a logo needs to be changed for computer use. Its more probable that the web site software is not self adjusting to the viewing platform types.

I dont see a green spot on the new Nortons or a Consignia logo on the royal Mail, and any one seen a bottle of 'New Coke' anywhere lately?

I would have thought that any image can be digitised

I sincerely hope this isn't change for change's sake because I really do prefer the original logo.

My understanding of the requirement for a new logo, and I could be totally/partially wrong is that the existing logo is unsuitable for the smaller screens of smart phones and tablets.  The existing logo is degraded on small screens, whereas the proposed logo appears sharp and defined.  A case of horses for courses.  You can try this yourself on your smart phone, assuming you have one, and compare the two images.

Technology is constantly moving forward, for better or worse, and we have to take into account the medium that Club members (and potential entrants) use to stay in contact with the Club.  Therefore, if we're going to accommodate members with the latest (for the moment) technology, we have to ensure that what we provide is presenting the MCC to our advantage.

The logo has changed over the years; the existing logo is the current incarnation.

The proposed logo may not appeal to everyone, but there are other designs that can be proposed until we find one that does the job and appeals to most of us.  In a few years time, we could be looking at another logo because whatever logo we are using at the time is incompatible with the MCC micro-chip that's planted inside your skull :D.  Technology will have moved on.

My skull is the last place I'd stuff any microchip  ;D

But seriously, if the badge does have to change, is there any reason why the club couldn't put up a few alternatives and just let the membership vote?

You know, a bit like an election...

It's that or the suppository chip :o ; you takes your pick!

I believe it's all on hold for the moment, but no doubt members opinions will be taken into account.

While most modern web site packages automatically adjust screen layouts dependent on viewing device( at a basic level 3 eg: PC,tablet and phone) any decent software package for web site creation will also allow( if its that important) different specific image sizes to be called  for different devices . normally this step is not required but it seems it would be in this case. Perhaps its not the Logo that is behind the times....
