Whether you competed or spectated at The Land's End Trial this year, you probably saw a few more step through bikes than usual. This new 'Class S' was introduced by the club this year, attracting a grand total of 17 entries!
We spoke to competitor Steve Elford, who took on he challenge of Land's End with friends on a Honda Innova.
"I have been riding motorcycles for most of my life, on and off road and competing in enduro races. I would compete with a group of friends that I still ride the MCC trials with. The MCC trial events interested me more when my friend’s brother (Tom Collett) entered on a Honda C90 10 or so years ago. We would follow him around on the Exeter trial for back-up and watching for entertainment purposes. A few years later, I got a Honda Innova 125cc which has come to be my favourite bike.
I’ve completed a few Exeter trials, a couple of Land’s End trials and one Edinburgh trial event - plus many other adventures, including several trips to the Isle of Man TT. The events are so much fun and we do make it more challenging on step-through bikes. Sometimes, I do wonder why we do it when you’re always running behind time and normally soaking wet!
I think the biggest boost is when all the marshals and members of the public cheer you on throughout the event and the positive comments from other competitors. But, the highlight is reaching the finish point and being handed your certificate and a cold pint."
